Essays - Overview

As supporting material for the Initial Holograph Draft we currently include two of Virginia Woolf's essays. These include:

• The Cinema - drafted in mid-April, shortly before beginning 'Time Passes'.
• Impassioned Prose - originally published in the Times Literary Supplement, 16th September 1926. She worked on it from 10th to 15th May 1926.

Both of these essays inform, and bookend, the creation of the Initial Holograph Draft, which was written between 30th April and 25th May 1926.

In addition, we also include the following original essays kindly contributed by their authors for inclusion in this site:

• 'Talland House' by Marion Dell
• 'Time Passes' by Michael Lackey
• 'Woolf and poor women' - extract from Mrs Woolf and the Servants by Alison Light
